A Royal Day on the Farm

I still have to watch my recording of the Royal Wedding. Can’t wait! While getting ready for work this morning, I was watching sporadically the royal festivities on the kitchen telly :)  Just as the Prince & his Princess stepped out on the balcony for their first kiss, I spied our first hummingbird of the season at our feeder. I mean really… how cool is that?

After a glorious day of sunshine (they’ve been rare lately), I came home to take a walk in the woods and pastures with the dogs. Just on a whim, I thought I’d check to see if I could find any morel mushrooms. I’m a lousy mushroom hunter. I’ve always believed that I couldn’t see one  -- even if a squirrel in the woods would throw one at me. I had my dear late mother-in-law on my mind while hunting, you see… she was a legendary mushroom hunter. Just as the thought of her entered my mind, I saw one! And another, and another…

And another. Until I had about a gallon (well, that may or may not be a slight exaggeration… I’m excited, I tell ya!). I had to carry them rolled up in the front of my sweatshirt. It’s bad luck to take a bag with you on a mushroom hunt, ya know ;)

Here they are in all their glory, getting washed up in the sink.

I can’t wait for this feast. I’ve waited many many frustrating years to become a real mushroom hunter.

So… did you watch the Royal festivities today? If so, what was your favorite part? I’ll let you know mine as soon as I watch it. I do confess to shedding some tears during The Kiss (don’t tell!).

Have a fabulous weekend, my friends!

tammy, your late mother in law might have been with you in spirit as you discovered your morel's. i watched it, got up at 4 am....and am paying for it now. my favorite part was when they drove around the circle in the aston martin. too cool and so many had left by then except for the smart ones. and of course the 2nd kiss. the first was too 'british'. lol...stop by and see my british babe! she was in full dress for the wedding.

My favorite part was when the newly married couple came onto the balcony and the new princess said "oh wow". Loved it all really.

You found some! Isnt it great when you actually find some? I think they are done popping here. I'm just happy I found the few I did.
And I had to work today so I didn't watch the wedding. Caught the high lights on the 6:00 news after work today.
Have a great weekend Tammy!

I confess to shedding tears throughout the church ceremony, especially when 'Jerusalem' was played.
Such tears of joy ;)

I did not watch it. I prefer highlights. Her dresses were beautiful!!! Both were simple and elegant. I loved the men in uniform, too. It was formal and traditional - - respectful of their 'office'.

I love that Williams turned to Kate in the church as she walked up to him and mouthed "You're beautiful". It was a magical wedding and she was an elegant bride. Anne

I loved the wedding! I just hope they don't begin comparing her to Diana and they let her become her own *princess*!
I never hunted mushrooms before but, I love to eat 'em :)

Royal wedding schmedding. The most important part of this post is the morel mushrooms! Oh, you lucky, lucky girl! We found so many in the woods in Ohio. Last year I decided I would buy some for my Mom for Mother's Day and I finally located some at a gourmet food store here in Arizona. At 65 dollars a pound, I ended up passing on the idea.

Oh, those look scrumptious!

Congrats on your mushrooms! What a find!

I too saw our first hummingbird yesterday. It was hovering in the water from our sprinklers. I smiled from ear to ear when I saw it. :D

How exciting your hummingbirds are back!
Not sure about hunting mushrooms.....but glad you found some.
As for the wedding, I did not get up and watch it but I did just catch the ceremony on tv, I guess my favorite part would have been the procession from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace. The carriages and horses are absolutely beautiful, and the young couple finally being able to breathe and relax. Very nice!

So THAT'S what morels look like! Thank ya!

And yep, I got a little teary eyed, just cause it was nice to see two people who genuinely appear to be in love.

Enjoy the shrooms!

I was up at 4:30 the day of the wedding but didn't turn on the TV until around 6:00. I didn't think I'd care to watch it, but I'm so sorry I didn't catch every minute! Isn't she so elegant?!!

This has been an awesome year for Morels in VA. Everyone I know has found gallons and gallons yet I've found nary a one! :( I did watch the Royal nuptials and thought it was so lovely. Watch for the horse that throws his rider and overtakes the couple's carriage on his run back to the stable! :) (rider wasn't hurt...)

Funny, I heard about your finds half way across the state from PW in person! It made my mouth droole immediately.
I too have the royal wedding on DVR, but I must watch it when my blacksmith is out of the house.
Luckily when we got back home today, our son shared some of his mushrooms with me!

I went mushroom hunting once with my sisters and I don't remember this, but apparently we saw some nekkid people in the woods... running to their van... My oldest sister gave us a lie about why they were out there like that and we believed until recently...

Mushrooms! I cooked up a mess of them the other day too. Unfortunately, mine came from the grocery store. Can I borrow your dear MIL the next time I go hunting for mushrooms?

I had no interest in the royal wedding - guess I am a bit strange that way. Enjoy!

Hi Tammy,
I watched the Royal Wedding on Friday and admittedly shed a few tears. I thought it was beautiful and I also loved when William told Kate she looked beautiful after the walked up the aisle. The procession from The Abbey to Buckingham Palace was one of my favorite parts. Sshhh...don't tell anyone...but I re-watched again on Saturday morning. All the boys in my house were rolling their eyes every time they walked in the living room.

Oh your mushrooms look wonderful. I need to go looking. My brother has found about 50 pounds from going south and following the sun. He sells them. I usually get some from him. My Brian gets sick if he eats them and the kids won't eat fungus. Silly kids. My mouth has been watering for some.

Oh sweetie, ya found a bucket full of pleasure there! Mmmmmm, fresh mushrooms.

I too have hummingbirds. I have more than I've ever had this early and let me tell ya, their little beaks are chatterin' in this cold weather.

God bless and have a beautiful day! :o)

I didn't watch the wedding "live" but I did see the first kiss on the balcony right before I headed out the door. I have seen the "highlights" of the dress and such. As to you mushrooms . . . I've just never liked mushrooms. People act like they are "gold" around here, but to me, they're just a fungus :)!! Have a great day! Enjoy the SUNSHINE!!!!

I just wanted to wish you a wonderful Mother's Day weekend! :o)

I didn't watch any of it - but I did see her dress on a magazine, and it was awfully pretty. I think morel mushrooms are one of the coolest looking things ever! I've never eaten one though-not too big of a mushroom fan. xo

I used to go mushroom hunting when I was in college! Fun stuff. Tammy, thank you so much for coming and finding me again! I certainly have missed you and your beautiful blog! I think the reason I'm not showing up on your blogroll is because my blog is set to private now. Kinda lame, but I felt like I wanted to protect the kids from weird viewers, you know? Well, you are definitely not a weird viewer and you are welcome any time!!!
