We interrupt this regularly scheduled blog break for a springtime announcement.
My long-awaited first sign of Spring finally arrived early this week. Spring peepers and western chorus frogs began their spring songs on our ponds. Ohhhh, how I love this sound.
I made a little audio clip to share. Nothing to look at here – just the audio for you to enjoy the spring sounds. I wanted to give you a snippet of what we are hearing now in case you’ve never heard them before, or are in a location where the froggies haven’t awakened quite yet. I crave this sound all winter long. It's even my ringtone. Crazy... yes I know :) The sound is nearly deafening at times here, but I still love it! **Update: I had to insert a link here because after 10 hours my video still wouldn't upload to Blogger. Hope this works!
The loud whistling sounds are Spring Peepers – pictured below. (Whoa, this looks painful, huh?)

If you listen closely to the clip, the sounds which resemble a thumbnail on a comb are the Western Chorus Frogs (my favorites).
I’m still on a blog break. Really I am. Soon I hope to catch up on my chore list, as well as my ever-important blog list. I’ve been sick this week with cold/flu. And no, I do not have our taxes complete. And no, I haven’t accomplished any of the other unpleasant tasks as of yet. I did manage to purge my closet of two very large bags of clothes (so far). Goodwill and Uncle Sam (IRS), look out 'cause here I come just as soon as I’m back among the living.
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Happy Spring… see you soon!

Very cool Tammy! We just started hearing the Peepers last week, mid-week. I am glad you interrupted your blog break! Sorry you have the creepin' cruds and are knee deep in kleenex. Get to feeling better fast, get those taxes done and do a Thursday Walkabout. Please :)
We started hearing peepers about two weeks a ago! I love them!! I got pictures of one a couple of years ago. He just kept singing no matter how close I got it was sooo cool!
Hope you feel better soon!!
I can't wait until your next post. Why you might ask? My biggest fear in life is FROGS....
I scream like a real girl when I find one.
Poor Bentley got screamed at this week, when I wanted him in the basement and there was a frog/toad between him and I. YIKES!!!!
We have a little frog pond out in the horse pasture --- and yes they get very noisy - it is funny how you get so used to them! Our little noisemakers will be awhile - our ground is still frozen!
Oh the spring time chorus! LOVE IT. Then onto the farmers light show from the fire flies! Wonderful post
Frogs are soooo goooshy. We have one that enjoyed living on our front porch every evening last summer. Forgot to warn my daughter about him and he surprised her one night as she stepped onto the porch... hee hee No No.. she didn't step on him, but almost!

The tree frogs around us love the warm haven of the hot tub. You've got to make sure no one makes a dive for the water or you're scurrying to scoop a little guy out.
tammy,
the peepers are so cool...we have seen chickadees and orioles at the birdfeeder so I know spring is close!
very windy today and snow is almost all gone (snowbanks will take a while).
you've described my life this past week...this crud is annoying-mentally i have a to do list a mile long but the body isn't cooperating! hope you're on the upswing.

They certainly are a beautiful sound...ours are still about a month away. When and where we lived in town, we had a pond and the sound was deafening, but absolutely wonderful! How cool they are your ringtone...mine is a donkey bray! We still have snowy, dirty snowbanks, but Spring is on the way....clocks ahead tonight (yahoo)! More time to play at night.
Hope you are feeling better soon and back to blogging, miss you....
Hello Tammy...I've been following your Blog for a while but just haven't formally become a FOLLOWER until now. I love your posts and your pictures. My husband and I live on a small farm in rural Kansas and love every minute of it. I hope you'll stop by some day when you have time and say 'hello'. Good luck with your taxes and I hope you've gotten over your cold. Take care. Maura
Good to hear from you!
Hi Tammy!!
I LOVE frogs! I love hearing their chourus, too :) It makes me happy. Sleeping with our bedroom window open in the spring, we can hear the creek and the frogs. And the kitties love it!
Hope you get through doing all the "grown-up" stuff! We already did our taxes...blah!
Hurry back (I missed you) and feel better..
xo, misha
This is too funny Tammy!! Hopefully I can get a post up just for you!! (lol)- This is so cute with the Spring Peepers!! What a fetching photo capture too, ha.
Please rest up..I do pray you'll kick this fast with none of that lingering around stuff! Big hug,
Regina-
Ahhhh, the peepers. We haven`t heard them here yet but I`m hoping it`s soon!
Love it! We have peepers all around us but none actually in our pond. Not our first year anyways; things could change! I think we have a good month to go before we hear those sounds. I'll be on the lookout or should I say ear out to find out how much longer we're behind. I'm kinda curious now!
Hope you're feeling better soon, and thanks for the sounds of spring! : )

Hope you are feeling better soon. Being sick is noooo fun.
Take care!
I love that sound! Reminds me of when I was a kid and we stayed often as some friends house who had a pond outside the bedroom window. The frogs would get loud, but I loved it! Now I enjoy the owls! (And sometimes coyotes!)
Hope spring weather brings a full recovery for you!
Hi Tammy! I hope you're feeling better by now. I actually heard the "thumbnail on a comb sound" this week in our neighborhood. Could it be possible that we have those frogs in town? There must be a pond nearby. I love that sound! Thanks for sharing...I never knew what the sound was.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Jackie
I love listening to the Peepers.
I love the sound of the frogs too Tammy! They've been quite loud the last 2 weeks... I noticed I could hear them from across the gravel road a week or so ago. I absolutely love taking the girls out to do their business late in the evening, just to listen to the frog chorus. :)
On a walkabout a week ago, I also noticed that we had TONS of big, and I mean BIG, tadpoles in our silt pond. I think it's going to be a banner year for frogs and toads!
Tammy, I'm so envious of your frogs and their wonderful song. It snowed last night and now we have ice. Seems like spring is far away here so I'm enjoying it through you.
Hi Tammy! I think frogs are adorable! I found one last spring in our flower bed when we'd had so much rain and I was quite pleased to have the little visitor! I haven't seen him since, but we live near a creek so he was probably just visiting. I have been on a "blog break" too lately and not really blogging much. I think it was the winter blues and all our snow this year. Now that's it's getting warm and sunny again I feel like picking it back up and writing some more. I hope so!! :)
Hugs,
Sheri
