Mr. W and I had a fun day yesterday at our State Fair.
Mr. W spent the day at the BAM tent.
It was a hot day for forging, but those BAM guys & gals are very dedicated.
There were BAM wares for sale, such as this iron armadillo.
I combed the fairgrounds for floral inspiration, which I found in several places.
And also in the Floriculture building.
I bumped into our State Fair Queen and her family, who happens to be from my hometown. Our families are friends.
Yay, Samantha!
I met some interesting roosters.
They appear to be thinking, “What are YOU lookin’ at, Sista?”
And now, for my favorite part of the fair. I met up with friends (fellow mini donkey owners) from Warsaw, MO to watch various miniature mule and miniature donkey contests. Our favorite by far, and the one we look forward to from year to year is the Miniature Donkey Costume Contest. The photos aren’t the greatest. I always have bad luck getting good quality pictures in this big exhibition center.
Here are a few of my favorite entries. They were all cute, and so creative!
Clockwise from upper left:
Hippie chicks with “Age of AquariA$$” – donkey had a ‘fro’ wig and brown fringey vest;
Singin’ in the Rain (love those yellow rain boots on the donk!);
Brahma “bull” donk, complete with the Brahma hump- and rodeo clown, rodeo queen and cowboy;
BoPeep complete with a wool fleeced donkey (so glad it was air-conditioned in the arena). BoPeep took 1st place;
Jack In the Box;
Holstein Donkey.
We had Jumbo Corn Dogs for lunch. I never thought the time would come when we would pay five buckaroos for a corn dog! But they were quite delish, and certainly a meal on a stick.
I’ve also enjoyed seeing my blogger friends’ reports on their county and state fairs. If you want to visit the Orange County, CA fair, see Dawn (Dandy) at Spontaneous Clapping. Her ‘recipe’ for seasoning roasted corn on the cob sounds (and looks) simply divine!

Wow, sounds and looks like a lot of fun. I love the donkey contest, too cute! We have a bit of a wait yet for our fall fairs, but it will be here before we know it!

I love to go to the Sedalia fair on opening day, because corn dogs and drinks and caramel apples and ALL the goodies can be found for $1 each!
As if I need all that. I didn't get to go this year; maybe next.
I love fairs, though I do not get to go very often so it is nice to enjoy one from someone else--thanks for sharing the wonderful pictures of your day at the fair I can't decide which I enjoyed more the flowers or the donkeys?????
have a great day on the farm--hugs, just, Di
It's been a long time since I've gone to a fair... I miss them, such fun! Love the floral ideas you found. And a jumbo corn dog! Yummy! :) (that means more work when you shred, you know?!)
Oh that looks like so much fun! I haven't been to Sedalia since I was little. We'll have to try to make it next summer.
I love the begonia wall. What a pretty idea. Handsome roosters too! Jumbo corn dogs sound like the perfect fair fare. :o)

Awesome fair pics! Those flowers are beautiful too!
J and I were rolling with laughter at the donks in costumes!I tried bribery-"See, J, if we had a couple donks, we could make costumes and enter them in contests." Maybe for Christmas I will get my own Ruby and Gracie!!
Loved all the pictures. Hope the weather was not too hot for the all the blacksmiths.

We have never been to the state fair!
We talked about going this year but ended up hiking on the Prairie....
The donks are very cute....Looks as if you had fun.

Loved ALL the pics! The roosters were hilarious! And of course, I loved the donkies the most. ;) Beautiful flowers! Glad you had a good time. I haven't been to a fair in years and years! In fact, I think I was probably a kid. Nope, not telling how long THAT'S been! ;)
I think perhaps I am missing the boat so to speak by not attending the fair with you! John boy is at the fair and has been since Thursday. He has checked out Annie's painting that is in the 4-H barn and also her photo of sunflowers. He looked for Mr.PW but was not there at the right time I guess :-( I am glad you had such a fun time.
Thanks for the link love!
Can I just say, that I am so jealous our fair doesn't have a donkey costume contest! Was that the cutest thing you have ever seen or what?!
And those rooster were totally eyeing you... you better watch your back!
Sounds like a great time,I love the roosters and the donkeys....my donks run as soon as they see anything that looks like people clothes, so I am amazed when I see donkeys dressed up.
It looks like a good time was had by all !
I loved the donkeys in the dress-up costumes...so funny ;)
Our local county fair starts this Friday, it's an exciting time in town, something for everyone, plus we get the country music stars from Nashville, gracing us with their presence.
Loved your photos !
Love the fairs, our fair and rodeo begins on the 25th!
I'm not going to our fairs this year but it was so much fun seeing your write up and experiencing the fair through your pictures. What fun!
You MUST let me know when the mini Donkey show is going to be. I've seen a lot of stuff at the State Fair but I've not this! Nor have I found the mini donkey barn! Those pictures are a riot!
