Grandmothers are…

just antique little girls, aren’t they? And what a blessing they are. We recently celebrated my Grandma’s 97th birthday. It was truly a joyous day for all, but this photo by my cousin Susan captured the joy oh-so-perfectly.

Grandma on her 97th birthday this month, with great-great granddaughter.

What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, lessons in life. And, most importantly, cookies. ~Rudolph Giuliani

Here is what it looked like in our neck of the woods one year ago today.

Things aren’t so colorful here this year, or at least not yet! How is Fall where you are?

That is just the perfect picture of Grandma and the baby. I can't believe she is 97! Wow!

Our fall hasn't been near as colorful as some either. But I have a lot of old oak trees that turn brown rather than bright.

It's a beautiful picture of your Grandmother. You are all so fortunate :)

Our foliage is just turning, but we don't get some of the fabulous color that other regions get. I'm not sure if it's the wet or the milder summers and winters.

If that isn't the cutest picture, I don't know what is! All of my grandparents had passed away before I was ever born, and I feel like I've missed so much. I'm heading to SW MO this Thursday, I was really hoping for some good color! Get on that, ok?

Your Grandma looks amazing, and that photo is priceless. They look like they are sharing a special secret :)
The trees around here didn't get as colorful or vibrant as other years. We had a very warm, dry September.

Wonderful photo of Grandma and baby, she sure looks great! I miss my grandmas, but Carman still has one, 93.
Our leaves are getting pretty but we had a lot of wind and rain so they are....on the ground!

Get out, she is not 97!!!! Are you sure you've got that right? Happy Birthday to your extremely young looking Grandma!

Colour? Eh. Not so good this year. Mostly dull yellows, not much in the way of orange or red. We had a cold freeze after an early spring which nipped all the leaves on the trees. They looked really straggly this year, especially the sugar maples but on the bright side, we have about a quarter of the leaves we normally get, much less raking, which is good because the hardwood isn't stacked yet. Oops. : )

How wonderful that you still have your Grandmother to share your life with! I am so envious. My Grandmother passed away 6 months before her 89th birthday. What a wonderful blessing....and I would have never guessed her to be 97!

Tammy, that picture is so touching. You can see the love glowing from inside those souls and connecting with each other. Your Grandmother doesn't look 97 to boot. She looks amazing! I work with the elderly and I can tell you I wouldn't have guessed 97 in a million years. How wonderful

What a great photo of your Grandmother. I miss my grandmother "Honey" every day. May I borrow your quote to put in my cookbook that I am making in tribute to my grandmother and my mother?

Great photo Tammy. I know I am late but I am still sending Birthday Wishes to your Grandma! I want to look that fabulous when I am 97.

Our leaf color was brown this year. Lots of shades of brown with the exception of some bold sassafras and some gorgeous dogwood. Color our leaves GONE now with the storm Monday night. We still have Bradford Pears with their summer clothes on!

Happy Birthday to Grandma! My mom's mom turned 97 a couple of weeks ago. She is now in a nursing home and not doing well. She is very confused, very angry. It is a sad situation. My dad's mom will be 97 in December. She is, all things considered, in very good shape for almost 97. We are very blessed to have our grandmothers. Have a wonderful day. And I'm with you on the not-so-colorful fall. It's the same around here.
