Thursday Walkabout: Hometown

I only live about 20 miles or less from my hometown. Our farm is only about a half-mile from where Mr. W grew up. Guess you could say we haven’t ventured out much?

Here are a few of my favorite sights from my hometown: Courthouse & Library architecture, Fountain statue at the courthouse, Church I grew up in, County Veterans Memorial. I cherish these old buildings. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore!

This is my parents’ house – where I grew up.  And just look at this portion of their park-like yard. Wish I had inherited the “perfect yard” gene. Darn. Their landscaping and lawns really are something to be proud of. Next summer I’ll have to do a more in-depth walkabout with many more photos at their location.

These were taken yesterday during the beautiful weather. Today, we’ve had too much rain all day and into the night.

Are you near to…  or far from your old stomping grounds… where you grew up?

I wouldn't go too far if that's where I grew up! Beautiful! I grew up in a 'small' city, with a population of 28,000, at that time. I always thought I would live there but life happens and now I'm about an hour away. I don't get there very often, but it will always be home to me. I hope you'll share more with us!
Be well! ~Andrea~

Gorgeous house and buildings! I live just under 3 hours from where I grew up. My sister bought the hobby farm that I grew up on and lives there with her family now, boarding horses.

Your childhood home is so charming!
I grew up across town. I see my parents house off and on...I miss them and the family home!
Hope you are drying out. We also have had the rains...now I see snow is in the forecast!

Oh, I luv that style of house. And the yard is so pretty. I grew up in Atlantic city NJ. I still have my little house over there, but we live just over the marshes in a little town called Northfield.

We are an ocean in between now, but my parents were the ones that initiated the move (my dad) after my oldest sister. The architecture is amazing as you say (I make jokes about the Islands building structure resembling driftwood (lol). The lawn above is beautiful..do they still live there?

I don't know about not getting the gardening gene; I've seen your flowers and wished you were near me to help me with my gardening. Your parents' home look so peaceful and charming, too. I always enjoy seeing what you photograph!

Tammy thank you so much for rambling over to my blog and your sweet comment. Thanks for following too. I don't follow cause the follow thingie gets me all befuddle muddled but I will be rambling here often! I am not familiar with your little bit of country in the ShoMe state. It is beautiful country and I am enjoying your blog. You are not far from us at all, well depending on your idea of far. Country Husband and I are used to hopping in our vehicle and just going! Enjoy your weekend!

Love your old homeplace. I was born in VA, but moved to Texas when I was 6. So I live within just a few miles of my old stompin grounds!
Thanks for your encouraging words on my blog. Lauren is doing much better. She actually is going back to school on Monday. Thanks for your prayers.

Your parents house is beautiful, looks like a great place to grow up in. I was born and raised in Germany and now we live in Alabama. Guess I'm a world away from my "old stomping ground".

Nice yard!! My parents are the same way. My mom can grow just about any flower too!! I am 35 miles from where I was born, raised and spent most of my life(6 generations in that county on my mom's side of the family).... Never really thought we would move but like another commenter said Life happens and we love the little town!!! So glad you stopped by my blog I am adding you to my list!!

Your parents' house and yard are spectacular. I'm about 45 min from where I grew up. The furthest away I've lived was 7 hours drive. BUt that was during college when I was "breaking free". But I couldn't stay away from my mom for very long, so I came back. :o)

Beautiful shots - we haven't ventured far from our beginnings either and I never would want to as I love it here - except for the winters but then it makes us appreciate the return of warm weather in the spring so much more.

I have always loved small towns and old architecture! I grew up around Virginia Beach area and now I'm on the other side of the state in the mountains...Definitely a big change!! We've had alot of rain here too, but with the cooler nights, we're having beautiful foliage this year!

Hugs,
Sheri

Love the pictures! And how nice that everything still looks so pretty. I grew up in Queens, NY and went back about 3 years ago. It was a horrible experience. I couldn't believe how run down everything was. It was quite sad. But your hometown is so beautiful!!!

I am in the same place too!! I have moved away a couple of times, but ended up coming back home! Your parent's home is beautiful! We are knee deep in water and rain too! I grow weary!

Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving me such a nice comment. It led me to yours!

I think it's sweet that you are still so close to home. I'm about an hour or so from home, but it's a sad state, my old neighborhood.

I'll be in Springfield Missouri in the next couple of weeks....are you far from there?

What fun, to see pictures of your hometown. You're right, the architecture is beautiful. I love all the ornate details. And your parents' yard is fabulous! You would never need to go to the park, you could have all the picnicking and outdoor beauty you wanted right out the front door. Lovely. Thanks for sharing :)

I still live in the same small town. Actually, my house is about half a mile, as the crow flies, from where I grew up and our farm adjoins my mom and dad's old place (they sold years ago). Come to think of it, my husband and I actually rent the farm my parents owned. We run cattle on it. So, you see, I have made it very far either . . . AND I LOVE IT!!!!!

Charming is the perfect word. That house and yard are perfection!

Well, I am quite far from my childhood home in Ohio, but I love all the new discoveries here in Kansas... the architecture of the buildings in these small towns is amazing. You can just envision when they were small cow-towns!

Love your parents' house, that is just cute as a button. :)

Beautiful pictures and beautiful settings.
I grew up all over the country and never felt that sense of 'Home' until several years after I married my good hubby-buddy. Then, we moved to his home-state and it was the most marvelous feeling I had ever experienced. ~ Just Joany
