Honeybees, the Amish, and a Goldfinch

We have a new swarm - another captured swarm. We think the newbies may be Carniolans (aka Carnies). Pictures to come soon of the NewBees :p
Here’s a pictorial update of Hive #1 – frame-checking, adding a Super to Hive #1.

Mr. W and I now have our own protective Bee Suits. They are awesome. We’ll have to do a self-portrait soon :) I must say.. in this heat – suiting up for the bees is a very good way to lose weight!
Speaking of heat, we made a quick trip to Amish Country last week. The heat index was about 110 degrees. I no longer feel like complaining about the heat after seeing this---

And finally, a male Goldfinch giving me the Stink Eye at the window feeder.

If you’re among the many suffering with this extended heat…
Stay hydrated and well!!

love the goldfinch. too cute! i was gathering up some hay from our field (left over from the speed balers) the old fashioned way last week too. it was hot and gritty and no fun. but my horses enjoyed it so that made it worth it.

You are so brave to work with bees! (I'm scared of them, but do love them.)

I laughed at the stink-eye--great shot!!

Stay cool! :)

I can so relate to the sauna reference! I don't even need a bee suit for that around here but am so looking forward to seeing yours!

Great pictures. Like the old saying goes, pictures are worth a thousand words.

Keep cool, we are headed for the river. First time to have the boat out this year, what a shame.

Yes, pictures please :0!! My husband used to raise bees years ago. The honey was DELICIOUS!!! We got NO rain over the weekend. Hope the rain found its way to you :0!

I find bee keeping to be so fasinating. I agree with Blondie a Christmas card in bee suits, very unique, no duplicates there. Our heat has finally broken with rain on the way. Hope you are enjoying your summer, and yes that little goldfinch does appear to be giving you the evil eye! Greetings from Maine, Julie.

Dear blog friend,
I am trying to put together a bloggers board.
This board would contain the name of the blog, the first name of the author ( last name, if you allow ) and birthday-- month and day only.
Once I get this put together, I will email to all participants.
If you know of others who would like to be listed, please give them my email address so I can add them.
I just think it would be handy to know when our friends birthdays are so we can send them our best wishes.
Those of you who have not yet sent me your address, please do. These will not be part of the blog board, but for my own personal address book. I like to send cards now and then.

Love the shot of the Amish haystacks Tammy! That is so cool to see their neat stacks. So different from the rounds! Yes I think a shot of you and Mr. W in your bee suits is in order! Just set the timer and let it click! Mr. Goldfinch does indeed seem to be giving you the stink eye. They keep extending our excessive heat warning and I am starting to have a bad cranky. I need to get outside and walk. Stay cool there at Flat Creek. At this rate we won't ever get the croquet set put up :(

Hi Tammy! Love your header! Great photos of the bee project and the Amish in the hay field. I don't know how they can take the heat, but they are used to it I guess. Love your Goldfinch photo, they haven't been around as much here at my house as in the spring. I did see 2 of them at the feeder yesterday. Stay cool!

I know nothing about bees, but I find it fascinating. I am so glad I do not have to make hay like that!

I was in the Amish country last week (all the way from Texas). I saw a young couple bailing hay, too! Wow.....

We here in Michigan are also in the deep heat phase of the summer, but our drought ended a couple of days ago with some long lasting rain. Heavenly for the pasture. Of course, some areas now have flooding...

I love your new header and I loved this post.
Today is to be a record day of heat~ stay cool!

Thank you for praying~ for Kim. She is doing well. The Doctor does believe it is cancer but that he got it all. She will have to be religious about getting scans for the next six years to make sure it does not return. God is good!
