Introducing: Flat Creek Sawmill

In our quest to never, ever run out of something to do around here, we’ve now added a sawmill to the mix. Actually, one of these babies has been on our wish list for quite some time.  After loads of bad luck and great difficulty, our new project finally arrived a couple of weeks ago. Mr. W has been working on the base for it, and yesterday we finally got to try it out. The Blacksmith and the Fiddler worked very hard yesterday to accomplish this.

Everyone had their chance at a test drive. It was fun!!

Here, the Fiddler is the operator, cutting a slice of walnut from our old backyard tree that had died and was taken down a couple years ago. His sandbox was located under that very tree many years ago. Awwww ;)

Here are the first few walnut boards (they did get prettier with each cutting).

A closer view – see the Angry Ants?

The boards will have to cure for awhile, then they’ll be project-ready.

More sawmill posts to come in the near future.  Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

Tammy, you are a wonder woman! As is (apparently) the rest of the family. I keep looking for time to sit and read a book, NOT add more projects!

My husband will be jealous. This is on his dream list.

Oh would my husband be so jealous!! He's been wanting one for himself for a while now! He's getting ready to put the second floor in his barn and would love to be able to mill his own boards as well as "tongue and groove" them :)

What a fun new toy! You will have some beautiful wood for the house now. Someof the wood in our house was cut at a friend's sawmill in St Charles county.
Why now PW will have waste slabs to make homemade charcoal too!
Have fun and BE CAREFUL!

Oh wow. I love your new toy. And that wood grain is glorious. I can see a harvest table out of these gorgeous boards.

My Great Uncle ran a sawmill for his entire adult life, well into his 80's. He supported 6 children and a wife with his hard work. You just brought back such a flood of great memories of family stories!

Have a wonderful week!

That looks like a 'big boy' tool! It appears you'll be having fun with that and can't wait to see what your fallen walnut tree shall become!

Girl, I can feel your project list grown now!!! How very interesting...even the angry ants!

Mama always said men were little boys only their toys were much more expensive!!!

God bless ya and have an amazin' day!!! :o)

Wow! When will you have time to do THAT?! I am so jealous...

I don't dare let hubby see that new toy. He will want one pronto. Have fun! It looks like a 4 letter word to me... WORK!

Have a great rest of the week and don't let today's sunshine fool you. Remember we are in Missouri and the weather is fickle.

That would save alot of money! My husband just informed me that he has to get another load of lumber, and that is never a small amount, he builds wood water skis.

A portable sawmill appeared on our land when the snow melted. The bonus of buying a farm in winter--all sorts of things appear in spring!

Yay! My hubby has one of those that he bought off Ebay and drove 10 hrs to get! We have many black walnut and locust trees that have been made into fence posts and boards etc. Also used ours to cut new oak beams for our old barn floors. Wishing you many fun n pretty projects!

Leslie
