Our Local Amish ~ Sadness & Tragedy

Yesterday, one of our local Amish men, age 29 and father to five, was tragically hit and killed on the highway while traveling by buggy. His horse was traumatically injured and was euthanized by a veterinarian at the accident scene. Our hearts & prayers go out to his family and the entire local Amish community. As well, our thoughts & prayers are with the driver of the car and his family.

Many questions remain unanswered, however this has been a grim reminder to all that we need to keep our mind and eyes on the road constantly.

I’ll leave you with a prayer request for all of the above, and a photo that I took last Summer in Amish Country.  Some of the hardworking, beautiful, strong horses…

When we lived in Ohio we were very close to the Amish communities around Dalton. It was always so horrifying to hear of the buggies, horses or children being hit by speeding cars. Just really sad.

Very sad news.. we have an Amish community not to far away - and you have to be so careful on the highways especially in the dark of night.
Many prayers to that family...

He was very young..and his family must need strength now..these fine horses are so beautiful-what a gentle reminder, thanks Tammy. I'm stunned with that quake over in Haiti as well. From the smallest to the greatest crisis, God is a God of order and wisdom who can take us through and help us to make sense of it all. In Him, Regina-

Such sad news. We have an Amish community about 45 minutes from us, and they are the nicest, purest people you could ever know. Losses in their community have such a deep impact on them, I'll put them all in my prayers.
Very sad.

Wow, my day has been with so much heartache and to now read this. We live very close to Amish families also. We see buggies with families on the highway also. This is so sad. I will pray with everyone here also. Thank you Tammy for reminding us of this.

Please remember the families in Haiti. What devastation!

Blessings, Linda

My heart is sad for that family. In fact, it's been a sad day... thinking of those in Haiti as well. Praying for a peace that passes all understanding.

So young. My thoughts are with the family.

Beautiful picture of beautiful horses. Great shot but I think it was not an easy one.

How very sad. We have a large Amish community here in PA and as a child I can recall seeing those buggies on the main roads when we would visit Lancaster.

Our thoughts are with the family and community.

Oh Tammy I know. We saw it on KMIZ yesterday. When we travel to Sedalia or Versailles and see them in their buggies I always worry for them on those two lane roads. We love to see them but I worry for their safety. We will be keeping his family in our prayers. Truly sad.

OH how sad. And so senseless. I know they use the triangle reflectors on their buggies, so it should not be that hard to see them.
There is an Amish farming community all around the town where I went to college. Every store in town has a wooden post off the parking lot where they tie their horses when they come to shop. I buy their jam or pie every time I go back to visit.

My heart goes out to their families and the community. The poor children now left without a father and a wife without a husband.

My husband heard this on the radio and we didn't know where it was. I'm so sorry to hear it's a person in your community. I'm always concerned for their safety when I see them. His family and their community is in my prayers!

This is just awful. What a horrible tragedy. Father to 5--it's so hard to make any sense of these things.
The photo of the horses is beautiful. I really love it. So much movement captured. So majestic.

My heart goes out to this young man's family - what a terrible tragedy for them.

We had many Amish communities south of Akron, Ohio, and I always loved going down for a visit every summer -- scouring the shops for antique finds and always, always bringing some yummy bakery goods home!

Your photo of the Amish horses above is just beautiful, Tammy! I love the movement that you captured and how their attention was so focused on you.
