Short Ears

(As opposed to “Long Ears” ~ which you see a lot of on this blog.) I have today as my special guest model my father-in-law’s horse. She is our one and only equine of the short ear variety on the farm. Her two companion horses were taken by lightning three years ago. She keeps watch over the cows and adds some grace and beauty to our pastures.

She is a Percheron ~ Morgan. I just love her white face.

She doesn’t really have a name, just like his dog who also remains nameless. I call her Sweetie or Big Girl.  Anyone remember the song “Horse With No Name?” Does that date me? Probably! I only wish she had an equine companion again.

Here’s our last Fall tree for the season. The Bradford Pear comes through at the tail end with a nice show of color for us.

Last, but certainly not least, a Remembrance and Thank You to our Veterans and those currently serving in the Military. I’ll re-post this photo I took around Memorial Day of this year at a local cemetery. Their flag display is amazing.

What an adorable horse, & her ears ... is it natural they are so short?

The first thing I zeroed in on were the ears..though I never would of thought a thing. I love my dogs ears! ha. What a beautiful horse! You must be thrilled. Amazing, two were actually taken by a lightening! One of our geese died that way. We're actually experiencing a touch of lightning now as a storm has been expected. You must of been devestated though.
So that's your Bradford pear- simply gorgeous!
Well this memorial is touching -thanks.. I wanted to put something together myself- so tragic..you just have to wonder what the hecks going on!?
Anyway, thanks for stopping by with your encouraging comments and I do hope your having a wonderful day- my best to you and your family/critters-

She's beautiful! I like your pear tree, lucky you to still have fall colour. All our trees are completely bare and the leaves have all turned brown.

Be well! ~Andrea~

Tammy Oh My Gosh! Morgan is one gorgeous horse, I am in awe AND in love. What a beautiful face she has and I would love to run my hand over one of those cute little ears, give it a little scratch on the inside, softly fold it down and let it flip right up! I just want to snuggle right into her neck. And yes I remember "A Horse With No Name" by America. I was at SMSU then and I bought the album just for that song!

Your Memorial for Veterans Day is a wonderful tribute and the picture is a great capture.

We have a Bradford trying to hold on to the leaves that have turned from crimson to gold but I think it is losing the battle! Your tree is full and looking very pretty.

What a nice post tonight! Thanks for the smile.

I love horses--but they are built too high up for me--so I will stick with my "kitties" as my first love!!!!! I do love to watch horses run free in open pastures--they are soo confident and beautiful--a little graceful too!!

I love her! I think her ears are cute. ;) I do remember that song, *sigh* guess I'm showing my age too. Our trees are pretty bare now and it's really starting to look like winter. Hope you've had a good week!

OMG! She is a beaut! Does she live on your farm?
Goats are wonderful companions, and faithful to their equines!
I worked with a German Warmblood that competed in the 1996 Olympics and my goodness..I am 5'10 and I had to tip my head all the way back to even view this guy! Big horses rock!!

She is beautiful and I would think she should get along with the long ears that you have, right?? I love that whiteness on her face, and she is built so strong. I loved Percherons and Clydesdales as a kid. So sad that her two friends were taken by lightning. I always worry about our 3 when we get bad lightning storms. I pray each time that they are safe.

Hope you guys have a terrific weekend Tammy! :)

Oh, how sad that she lost both her companions at the same time. She is so beautiful, but with your explanation about her companions, it makes me almost think I can see the sadness in her eyes, still.
I shall hope with you that you are able to find another companion for her. She's sooo gorgeous.
Love all your pictures. ~ Just Joany

Sweetie/Big Girl is beautiful!!She's probably a little big for Ruby and Gracie, after having long ears, horse ears do look short...how terrible about her friends, can see at least see the donks. Your pear tree is absolutely lovely. "A horse with no name" I probably still have the album...

A lovely Horse to keep watch. I bet he is lonely for his friends. How sad for you to lose two horses.
Very beautiful tree! I love their shape too.
It is cold and rainy here. I am enjoying catching up. It seems I fall so far behind anymore. It is getting near Thanksgiving. Hoping you and yours have a very blessed day.
I am grateful I have met you and looking forward to learning more about your farm and all your critters.
Namaste,
Sherry

Hi Tammy..I hope you and your farm and family are doing great. We've been getting a ton of rain but come to find out it's only certain areas of the Island. My husband was swamped over the weekend..backed up, so we couldn't escape. Maybe this week? Well, we know the sun will shine huh?!
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by for the thoughtful words!

Hi Tammy..I'm leaving a link to something I just wrote on my writing blog-
http://johnfourtwentythree.blogspot.com/
cause I'd been thinking of you and your touching post (Tears, Joy & Hope) actually. Anyway, though this post has a good ending, my older cat really doesn't look like he will be with us too much longer afterall.. but its ok. I hope your doing good and you and your family have a wonderful thanksgiving-
